Discovering ChatGPT

 

Like many people I held off on accepting AI into my life. To delay robots and AI from taking over all of human kind's purposes and jobs. (j/k)

Also,Like many people I am discovering ChatGPT for msyelf now. It is my new best friend!!! 

As an author I was against using AI. It should not provide illustrations and especially not the words for books. If AI is doing the work then the "author" is not the author!  
It also damages the market for real authors and illustrators. Not just by taking their jobs but by saturating the market. If it is too easy for anyone to produce books then the real author's works can get hidden among the sea of available product.

Yet, finally I looked into AI generation for the average Joe. I tried it out on illustrations I already painted and sell in my animal book series. The results were astounding. 1) The quality of the art  was so professional and beautiful compared to my dinky paintings. To be fair , for children's book the bar for art is very low. And my art is just fine for the genre but the AI art is so much more fun!
2) How quickly ChatGPT can create magic from my descriptions is unbelievable! Yet, real! When painting an illustration myself would take a day and a half...vs. 60 seconds of AI generation.

After trying my own characters and story scene I turned to testing my Fan Fiction. My book is inspired by Jim Henson's Labyrinth. I originally attempted to learn to create my own digital art for this book. I failed. Yet, I used the attempts for my fan fiction book because I was not willing to pay big bucks for real art. Being that it is just for me in my own personal library. For my own personal joy. 

I did the same thing with my Nightmare Before Christmas Fan Fiction.

BUT NOW...ChatGPT makes it so easy (and FREE????) to create illustrations that are professional. The cost is the most astounding part of it all! That you can legally sell the images AI creates for you is "insane in the membrane."

 The future is NOW! It is very exciting to have this advanced aid. To expedite my work as a self illustrator. It also opens doors for more books! I have an animal series with my own art. Now I can create the same series but with AI art. Two editions of my series gives customers options! Do they want the version with human painted work or the look of the AI generated? Everyone has their own preference.

These are very exciting times. Hopefully this shift in reality will benefit more than hurt me as an author. As well as everyone else in this business.  

Wish me luck and pray for me as I'm working hard and moving forward with optimism.

The Plan

 For months I focused on building my book quantity. Writing books and making them available on Amazon.  As a new writer I cannot expect to make many sales. Through researched I learned what to do during this journey and I came up with my plan... Have fun writing. Build my collections. Use AI for all of my illustrations as it is best on the wallet and fast. Having a real illustrator make the art takes much more time.  Book in person readings at local libraries. In the Meantime...

 Writing and publishing children's books takes time!  When you are learning how to do everything correctly; even if the story is simple and short the process is anything but that.  There are also times when all you can do is wait... Submit your book and wait for the format to be approved.   Fix the problem with your format, submit again then pray it goes through this time. Order a proof and wait for it to come in the mail.  Hire an illustrator and wait for the art to be complete. Order the final book and wait for it to come in the mail so that you can make social media content with the actual product in hand! Work hard, wait. Work hard, wait. Work hard, wait. Then comes the advertising and promoting of the books! That is a job in itself! True work! And that my friends is where I'm about to be. My books will be in my hands by the end of the week!
