Becoming An Illustrator

Ideally I do not want to be my own illustrator. Sure, I can draw and paint okay. I can impress little minds with my skillset. But am I an artist? Not in my mind.

In today's world so many people have the skill set of creating digital illustrations! I love those illustrations. It is not something I have been able to accomplish myself!

My little sister IS an artist. As a hobby. So I turned to her "Will you illustrate my military kids book series?" She agreed. As a mom of a 5 year old herself and trying to help bring in some money for her own family, naturally, she is very busy already. Does she have time to be my illustrator? Seeing as we might not make any money for a while. It takes time to get books up and running and known to potential customers. Plus, there's the fact that I don't know what I'm doing.

This means I cannot look to her to do all of my books. So, what do I do? I decided to attempt to be my own illustrator for my very first book series. I did not like the outcome but, it's good enough.  So I went with it and the response I got about my painting from friends was wonderful. They thought I absolutely have the skill set to do my own illustrations and that my style is different. Well, it certainly is "different" from the professional looking or the digital art of today!

For future book series' I don't know yet what I will decide to do. I am going to focus this whole year, 2026, on getting the animal series published and then focusing on the military kid series (which is halfway written already).

Wish me luck with my illustrations?!
